Gold signet ring, circa 12th Century, A.D., engraved with an Arabic Inscription in Kufic script. (Note; in the photos the correct orientation of the ring is as the first photo) It was most likely used as a seal and is similar in decoration and style to other gold objects from the Fatimid Dynasty (909-1171). The Fatimid empire spanned a large area of North Africa and West Asia, and they were descended from the prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Fatima. Their seat of power was in Cairo. This wealthy dynasty had control over gold mines and some examples of jewelry and gold objects survive to this day.
