Roman Grand Tour Souvenir Locket

A souvenir from Rome for the wealthy Victorian traveller on a what was known as the “Grand Tour”: an 18k locket in the Etruscan Revival style, circa 1860. The locket features a stunningly detailed micro mosaic to one side, depicting a white dove with roses. The other side of the locket simply says VIS, which refers to the Roman goddess who represented power and strength. She was usually depicted winged, like her more known sister, Nike. Inside is a glass compartment for photo or keepsake. The bail is large and also boasts its own gorgeous micro mosaic. Truly the epitome of Victorian grandeur.

Measures .93 x .80 inches, with the bail measuring an additional half inch.
